H&M collaborations can barely stay on store shelves and clothing racks, just ask Albert Elbaz for LANVIN or Donatella Versace for VERSACE. “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” collection by Trish Summerville for H&M opened its doors at 72 Gansevoort Street in New York City on December 14^th 2011 for a 3-day Pop-Up Shop event. With every passing day, merchandise passed through the store exit at an alarming speed. Things moved so fast, there was barely any time for thought. In one of my over-analyzing episodes, I let a crucial collection piece slip my fingers; the leather motorcycle jacket.

In an effort to regain possession of this jacket, I searched the only place I knew to find a second chance; eBay. There were many vendors, but the auctions were so stressful with its constant need for careful vigilance, frantic bidding and competition being nothing short of cut-throat. But alas, I found one vendor (Yuvaltamar) with the BUY IT NOW option. After checking the vendor’s 100% positive feedback, eBay Buyer Protection Policy and the selling details of an untouched, fully tagged authentic brand, I immediately made contact. The vendor was very informative, offered a tracking number with the item and entertained any further inquiries I had.

Upon receiving the jacket, I immediately opened the package. Inside was the H&M bag-handle peaking from the top, making it easy to just pull the bag and unveil the jacket. It was an emotional moment, and with glossy eyes, I held the coveted Trish Summerville motorcycle jacket that almost got away. The smell of the leather evoked a nostalgic experience to that amazing day I entered the Pop-Up Shop. The jacket and tags were exactly how I remembered. This is without a doubt the best eBay buy of the year.

Trish Summerville for H&M (Lisbeth Salander Tribal Earrings)

I loved that the Pop-Up Shop resembled a warehouse, thus creating a perfect atmosphere for the movie theme. The clothes were a modern take on 80^‘s punk and 90′s grunge. Imagine a cocktail drink with one-part Balmain, one-part Helmut Lang and one-part Burberry, that’s the formula for Trish Summerville’s collection for H&M. Racks of shredded tees and tanks, leather motorcycle jackets, pants and jeggings, wooly hooded coats, cotton hoodies. Accessories included a hoodie hat, leather-strap bracelet and a pair of tribal earrings that sold quicker than an Apple iPhone.

As I made my way to Barneys New York with my trusty HopStop app, I was totally psyched by the outdoor design, Lady Gaga’s mouth resembled a circus carnival. Immediately, I made my way in, hopped on the elevator, up to the workshop floor. The first thing I saw as the elevator door opened was a colossal Miss Gaga prop. The second mouth in Gaga’s Workshop was by some fun edibles.

So into the second mouth I went and discovered a wall of candy, candy and more candy. I’m a huge fan of gummy bears and sweet & sours and, well, here’s a shelf full of them!

What Gaga collection would be complete without Alexander McQueen Armadillo shoes? Well, maybe not the real shoes, but earring versions in bright colors like red, blue and yellow. Nearby were more shoes, but this time they were the real thing, glass-encased Noritaka Tatehana heel-less boot originals for $4k. Cosmetics brand Poppy created a Gaga lip-shade in a swirly black-red called Lipstick Queen, color name “Sinner.”

Chanel’s Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld is simply enamored with leather half-finger driving gloves and apparently so is Gaga, but with her own Gaga twist. Spiked, embellished half-finger leather driving gloves lay on display in a glass case by famed A-Morir by Kerin.Rose. Other accessories up for grabs were funky bracelets and cuffs.

Towards the end of Gaga’s Workshop, I stumbled across letter blocks spelling G-A-G-A with adorable Gaga Christmas ornaments and key-chains and beside that were Gaga snow-globes.

As we approach the Christmas season, Barneys New York is proud to give 25% of sales from all items featured in Gaga’s Workshop to the Born This Way Foundation, which “will focus on youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues such as self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring, and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one means to create positive change.”  Born This Way Foundation
